Washington, D.C. – Today, the Coalition for Fair Software Licensing announced its strong support for the Strengthening Agency Management and Oversight of Software Assets (SAMOSA) Act, which was introduced in the Senate by Senators Gary Peters (D-MI), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and James Lankford (R-OK). This bipartisan, bicameral legislation builds on the House’s introduction of the bill last month, led by Representatives Pat Fallon (R-TX), April Delaney (D-MD), and Nancy Mace (R-SC).
The SAMOSA Act would bring much needed transparency and accountability to the federal government’s software licensing, helping agencies modernize their IT infrastructure and optimize their digital spending. By requiring comprehensive assessments of software licensing contracts, the SAMOSA Act will allow federal agencies more flexibility and choice, leading to more efficiency, reduced waste and millions in taxpayer savings.
“We are thrilled to see lawmakers coming together to support the SAMOSA Act and end government waste in software licensing. The coalition applauds Senators Peters, Cassidy and Ernst for their leadership on this important issue and their work to drive significant cost savings and improvements in federal software management. We look forward to working with Chairman Paul to bring this bill before the committee and with lawmakers in both chambers to deliver it to the President’s desk.” – Ryan Triplette, Coalition for Fair Software Licensing Executive Director
In a show of industry unity, the Coalition for Fair Software Licensing has partnered with other industry groups, including the Alliance for Digital Innovation, Computer & Communications Industry Association, NetChoice, OpenPolicy and the Software & Information Industry Association, to express support for the SAMOSA Act.
The Coalition for Fair Software Licensing looks forward to supporting the SAMOSA Act as it moves through the legislative process, working with lawmakers to ensure its successful passage and implementation.
