Statement on New Complaint Against Microsoft in Europe
WASHINGTON, D.C. — As reported by Reuters, Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers in Europe (CISPE) filed a complaint against Microsoft with the European Commission today. The Coalition for Fair Software Licensing Executive Director Ryan Triplette released the following statement in response to the new complaint.
“The latest regulatory complaint against Microsoft demonstrates the company’s continued failure to meaningfully address its unfair and restrictive licensing behavior.
“Ultimately, it is Microsoft’s own customers who are harmed by the restrictive practices outlined in the suit. These practices hit customers’ bottom line with budget busting costs and limit their ability to use preferred cloud providers.
“The Coalition for Fair Software Licensing believes that using the Principles of Fair Software Licensing as a framework for restitution addresses the impact of restrictive licensing practices in this instance. Further, broad adoption of the Principles, which are supported by 90 percent of tech decision makers, will protect future customer flexibility and choice in the cloud.”
