WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Coalition for Fair Software Licensing released the following statement in support of the Strengthening Agency Management and Oversight of Software Assets (SAMOSA) Act, which was introduced today by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Representatives Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Pat Fallon (R-TX), April Delaney (D-MD), and Nancy Mace (R-SC).
If passed into law, this bipartisan legislation would require all U.S. federal agencies to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their respective software licensing contracts – which will increase transparency, security and responsible IT spending, reducing waste, and modernizing government operations.
“Taking a closer look at the federal government’s software licensing contracts to identify waste and unnecessary technology costs is a no-brainer. We applaud Representatives Connolly, Fallon, Delaney, and Mace for leading the charge to promote transparency, accountability, and cost savings in federal software purchasing. The SAMOSA Act is an important step to reduce redundancies and create efficiencies in the federal government, and we look forward to the passage of this important piece of legislation.” – Ryan Triplette, Coalition for Fair Software Licensing Executive Director
The Coalition for Fair Software Licensing also sent a letter to House leadership in partnership with other industry groups, including the Alliance for Digital Innovation, Computer & Communications Industry Association, NetChoice, OpenPolicy and the Software & Information Industry Association.
